Ritual & The Maiden Oracle

I have never had the pleasure of visiting Greece and as such have never explored the temples in which the ancient Oracles once existed. However, I have a powerful imagination and I feel that this beautiful Oracle deck possesses a touch of that elusive and profoundly magical energy of an ancient Greek Oracle.

The Maiden Oracle is a work of art from start to finish. Elegant botanical artwork, goddess portraits cast onto tea stained card stock, encased in a dainty floral border, with a warm muted colour palette finished off with an antique gold edge. Beautiful just doesn’t seem to cover it.

The Maiden Oracle is unusual in its oracle style. It contains within it the full major Arcana from the Tarot along with Greek Goddess cards and a selection of oracle cards making a 68 card total.

The botanical illustrations are what truly captures the eye. Set against a sumptuous tea-stained background these delicate hand-drawn botanical illustrations feel strangely otherworldly. Graceful and beautiful are the perfect words to describe the illustration style. And yet I feel within the energy of the deck a smoky ancient and wildly elusive power.

The guidebook is poetic. Short versus make up the regular description for each card. It’s an interesting approach to card descriptions and I rather like it.

When working with this deck you feel as though you are taking a stroll through ancient mythology of the Greek persuasion. It is a fantastic deck to pathwork with. Those of you who feel drawn to ancient Greek mythology will certainly get a little something extra out of this deck.

The Maiden Oracle has created an atmosphere unlike any other. When you shuffle the cards you can feel that atmosphere slowly unravelling around you until at long last you are enveloped by it.  Few decks manage to weave such an atmosphere and so for that reason alone, the Maiden Oracle has a very special place in my collection.

This deck goes beautifully with a ritual. In fact, I highly recommend creating a simple ritual using the Maiden Oracle just so that you can experience exactly what it is that I am talking about. Light a few candles, set a few intentions for oracular exploration. If you have flowers at your disposal, then decorate your ritual smile with them. If you can burn some incense, then do. The instance smoke truly adds to the atmosphere. Try something like this on the new and the dark moon. Ritually preparing your deck makes for another effective ritual and one that enables you to attune better with the Maiden Oracle.

This is not an everyday deck for me. This feels more like a ritual deck to me. When I’m in the mood to connect with deep magic that feels steeped in ancient Greek mythology, then I reach for this deck.

I really like the Maiden Oracle and would recommend it for intermediate to advanced readers.
