Well, what an entertaining read! 😄 I have heard a lot of chatter about this book on social media, which drove me to want to read it. At long last, a fantasy novel that wasn't about Fey but instead focused on Dragons, Dragon Riders, and a treacherous war school that was at the very center of the story. 🐉🏰

Read this book if you enjoy the following:

🐉 Dragons

🎓 War College/Academia

❤️ Enemies to lovers

♿️ Disability Rep

🔥 Slow burn

💥 Violence: High

🔤 Moderate Language usage

🌶️ A tiny bit of spice

Firstly, I must address the perfection of the internal disability rep in this story. There is so much that I could say about this facet of the story alone.

So let's get into it. Dragons! 🐉

"A Dragon without its rider is a tragedy. A Rider without a dragon is dead."

Our fantastical story is set in Navarre and focuses on 20-year-old Violet Sorrengail. Violet was destined to be a Scribe like her beloved father. Sadly, her mother, General Sorrengail, a Dragon Rider and battle-hardened leader, pushed our frail FMC Violet into the Basgiath War College to face the seemingly impossible goal of becoming a Dragon Rider while bringing pride to the Sorrengail name. 🖋️🐉

Basgiath War College is a treacherous, cutthroat school where everyone is out for themselves. Weakness is dangerous, and only the strongest, most lethal candidates will reign victorious. Basgiath War College only accepts volunteers. And despite an alarming death rate within the walls of the Riders Quadrant, volunteers are never in short supply. Because to be a Dragon Rider is to be a fucking legend!

"The weak don't survive here, especially not in the Riders Quadrant. The Dragons make sure of that."

This is an enemies-to-lovers story, folks! And damn, is it tasty! Our MMC is Mr. Xaden Riorsen, son of a traitor and marked with relics (think magical tattoos) given by a dragon in punishment. 😈🐉

Rebecca Yarros has done an incredible job of creating an immersive world replete with characters you just can't help but give a damn about. I absolutely loved how she crafted Violet into anything but a typical beauty. Violet is a flawed character thrust into a situation outside her control and challenged at every page turn. She is intelligent, and she uses her intelligence to compensate for her lack of physical strength and endurance. Violet is a protagonist that you can't help but cheer for. She's undoubtedly the underdog, flawed and multifaceted. 🌟🌸

Violet's family dynamic also had me. Her sister Mira is a complete contrast to Violet. Yet, the love and protective need Mira has for Violet are so fucking heartwarming. Especially when your mother is a stone-cold bitch who would prefer that Violet die rather than fail. 😢❤️

Now to the worldbuilding! The worldbuilding was incredibly immersive, making Fourth Wing the kind of book that will give you a pretty decent book hangover. Be prepared! You really felt like you were there, and Yarros did an amazing job of weaving urgency and intrigue throughout. The dragons were so well fleshed out. My heart was racing during the Threshing. 🌍🔥🐉

I loved this book! ❤️

Sure, the prose wasn't the absolute best, and there were some foreshadowing issues, but it was nowhere near as predictable as I was led to believe. In fact, I was quite delighted by a few twists and turns.

All in all, I gave Fourth Wing a 4.5-star ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️✨rating, and I am soooooo looking forward to book two! 🌟📚
